Jimmy LILE

1933-1991  Russellville, Arkansas

Sept 28, 2024 communication from https://jimmylile.com
"
The S is for stainless. This is a well-known button lock folder made by Jimmy or one of his workers, probably in the 1980’s. ... After Jimmy’s death in 1991, some of the folders continued to be produced but there was a distinct dot punched above the Lile stamp to show that it was made after Jimmy passed. Vaughn Neeley "

"He was a self employed knife maker. He retired after twenty years of service at DuPont Savannah River Site as a machinist. He was a member of and past president of the Knife Makers Guild, and SC Association of Knife Makers. He was also a proud member of the NRA. Mr. Herron served his country during the Korean Conflict in the Army."

"George Herron was an amazing part of the custom knife community. He was well known for his amazingly designed and crafted stock removal knives, and has a significant collector following. He founded the South Carolina Knifemakers Guild, he was past president of the Knifemakers Guild, and in 1987 he was inducted into the Blade Cutlery Hall of Fame. Sadly, George passed away in 2007, but his legacy still runs strong."

George Herron #2

1933-2007  Springfield, South Carolina  Obituary

BLADE Magazine   March 11, 2019
"Without a doubt, he was one of the best custom knifemakers to ever pursue the art. He gave information, expertise and precious time freely to those who wanted to learn. He was a crack shot, spitting in death’s eye during the Korean War and walking out of literal hell to fight another day."
"...George Herron was many things to many people, and they will never forget the positive impact he had on their lives. The South Carolina resident was a fixture among the finest in the custom knife business for years, a winner of many awards, president of the Knifemakers’ Guild, founder of the South Carolina Association of Knifemakers and a genuine friend to those he held close."
