"It is said" (?) the first letter starts a "set".
The second letter's purpose is unknown.
The numbers thereafter are in sequence within these lettered sets. By the 1970s there is a new system with only numbers. Serial number location on frame:- 1940/50s: on the side of the seat tube top collar area. - 1960s: on the back of the seat tube post collar area.
